There is great sadness about the loss of family farms, here in Vermont and elsewhere. In this painting there is the symbolism of the white horse, which in some cultures symbolizes death. But there is also the sunlit exterior and the small, playful pony beckoning this sad man to come into the sun, perhaps to begin again even in the face of great loss.
